Toledo requirements — not statewide requirements
Ohio Chapter 4740 does not establish one universal statewide journeyman electrician license. Requirements vary by municipality and project location, and initial-application figures on the posted Toledo form carry an older revision date: verify with the City of Toledo before applying. Toledo CE is tracked separately from OCILB CE.
Toledo apprentice / trainee registration

- Step 2. Complete the City of Toledo electrical registration form.

- Step 4. Track locally credited apprenticeship hours toward the posted 8,000-hour benchmark.
- Step 5. Renew for the 2026 cycle — apprentice renewal fee $25.

Toledo journeyman electrician
Toledo requirements — not statewide requirements.
Local journeyman, residential journeyman, and traveler journeyman routes administered by the City of Toledo.
- Step 1. Document recognized apprenticeship completion or an accepted qualification item.
- Step 2. Document the 8,000-hour apprenticeship benchmark, four years of electrical-construction experience, related electrical college education, or an existing municipal journeyman credential.
- Step 3. Provide employment history and supporting documentation.
- Step 4. Submit for board review.
- Step 5. Pay the listed $100 journeyman examination fee — verify with the City of Toledo before applying.
- Step 6. Complete the 10-hour code-update class required for the 2026 journeyman renewal (2023 NEC).
- Step 7. Renew for the 2026 cycle — journeyman renewal fee $50; late fee $50 after January 31, 2026.
Cautions
- Toledo CE is tracked separately from OCILB CE. Do not assume one course satisfies both requirements unless authoritative approval is recorded for both.

Local contractor registration, including holders of an OCILB electrical contractor license who also register with Toledo.
- Step 1. Register as a contractor with the City of Toledo.

- Step 3. Renew for the 2026 cycle — contractor renewal fee $140; late fee $60 after January 31, 2026.
